Located on the edge of South East London Dartford is in the Borough of Dartford, Kent. Dartford is a very popular commuter town largely due to good house prices and excellent transport links to central London. In medieval times Dartford was a market town and the name is due to the town centre being in a valley alongside the River Darent. The area where the road from London to Dover crossed the river led to the name Darent + ford.
Things To Do
Dartford is well known for the Dartford Crossing, a road bridge carrying the M25 bwtween Kent and Essex but there is much more to it. The bridge isn’t the only famous thing about Dartford, The Mick Jagger Centre is a performing arts centre, with two main stages and holds theatre workshops in the summer. The theatre is named after the Rolling Stones front man, Mick Jagger who was a pupil at the school.
If you are looking for new theatre productions, music and stand-up comedy from established and up and coming acts then the Orchard Theatre is definitely worth a visit.
Dartford has an abundance of restaurants and bars from the High Street chains to local independents such as Carnaval Meat & Tapas. The town centre is also great for retail shopping with the Orchard Shopping Centre and Bluewater is only a 15-minute drive away.
In the heart of Dartford you can find the studio and gallery of artist Stephen Oliver. Here, there are many exhibitions hosted for art lovers, particularly painting viewings. Art competition events for children are also hosted there for a family day out.
The centre of Dartford also offers some really great parks such as Central Park & Brooklands Park. A little further afield is Stanhill Farm, which offers a farm shop with locally grown produce and also a pick your own service – something which is great fun to do with the kids. Within a stone’s throw of Stanhill Farm is Birchwood Park and Golf. A lovely Country club featuring 18-hole and 9-hole golf courses, plus a driving range, footgolf and a cafe.

Dartford town centre has a railway station that links to London via three Nation Rail routes; North Kent Line, Dartford Loop Line and Bexleyheath Line.
The average train time from Dartford to central London is 50 minutes.
