Welling is located within the borough of Bexleyheath in between Woolwich and Bexleyheath. There is a local legend that Welling got its name in the era of the horse drawn vehicle. It was said that you were “well in” to Kent or had a “well end” to the journey to nearby Shooters Hill. Which used to be very hilly, a terrible road surface and frequented by highwaymen.
The housing in Welling is largely 1930s semi-detached houses, many with off-street parking, good gardens and of decent size. Good locations to live are to the north and south of Welling High Street, but the best and most desirable are those in the estate around Danson Park.
The area is very friendly and its low costs of living and nearby facilities make it a great choice for first time buyers and families.
Things To Do
Welling is a long High Street with lots of restaurants, bars and local shops. Conveniently it has a Morrisons and Tesco’s and also a Lidl. It even has its own local football stadium Welling United.
There are lots of great places to eat out such as; Da Peppino for Italian, Chupitos for Spanish tapas and Avenida which is great for wine, food and live entertainment.
Woodlands Farm is great for a trip with the family. The 89-acre working city farm put on lots of events through the year such as; dream catcher making, spring bird walking and lambing.
In Welling you can also find an array of pubs such as We Anchor In Hope and The Nags Head to grab a pint or meal with friends and family.
Churches such as the Methodist church and St Mary the Virgin can also be found in Welling creating a beautiful view and a sense of community in the local area between those who reside and visit.
Welling is also situated really close to Blackheath and Blackheath which both offer lots to do in terms of eateries, bars, shops and great parks such as the world famous Greenwich Park.
